Rock ve metal müziğin altın çağını yaşadığı 1980`li yıllara bir yolculuk yapıyoruz. 70`lerde fırtına gibi esen AC/DC, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath gibi gruplar 80`li yıllarda da etkisini devam ettirdi. Eski gruplar müziğe yön verirken Metallica, Megadeth ve Slayer bayrağı taşıyacak yeni gruplar olarak piyasaya giriş yaptı. Heavy ve thrash metalin yanında glam, death metal, black metal, grindcore, goregrind türleri de ortaya çıktı. Punk rock, hardcore, endüstriyel müzik kendine yer edinmeye çalışırken ilk grunge denemeleri de bu yıllarda yapıldı.
