2008`den itibaren her nisan ayının üçüncü Cumartesi günü yapılan Record Store Day koleksiyoncuların, arşivcilerin ve sıkı hayranların gözde etkinliği oldu. Her yıl birçok grup Record Store Day için genelde sınırlı sayıda plak çıkarıyor. Kaset ve CD basan gruplar da var.
Metallica 2016 Record Store Day`in elçisi seçildi. Geçen yıl böyle bir uygulama yapılmamıştı. Metallica`nın yayımladığı videoyu aşağıdan izleyebilirsiniz. Grup üyeleri etkinlik hakkında düşüncelerini anlatıyor ve albüm satışlarının öneminden bahsediyor. Metallica 16 Nisan`da “Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, Metallica! – Live at le Bataclan. Paris, France – June 11th, 2003” adında albüm yayımlayacak. Elde edilecek gelir Fondation de France`a bağışlanacak.
