1990`larda rock ve metal bir başkaydı. O zamanların ruhunu yakalamak günümüzde pek mümkün olmuyor. 90`lı yıllara, müzikseverlerin kült albümler edindiği bir zaman aralığı diyebiliriz.
Kurt Cobain Nirvana ile bir jenerasyonun sesi oldu. Dave Grohl, Kurt Cobain`in trajik ölümünün ardından Foo Fighters`ı kurdu ve şimdi büyük rock grupları arasında. Bunun yanı sıra, Pantera heavy metal bayrağını taşıyan grup olarak öne çıktı. Yükselen grunge trendi metali tehdit etmeye başladığında da Korn kendini gösterdi ve nu-metal terimi hayatımıza girdi. Daha sonra black, death metal gibi türlerde de hareketlenmeler oldu.
